Blog about town

How festive the town is starting to look. The Christmas lights are up, the tree is on its way and the SWITCH ON happens this Saturday. With, I might add, a Radio Pembrokeshire Road Show, various entertainments and it culminates in a Firework Display. Truly this will be an event not to miss.

Most of the shops in town have got in on the act and really, pardon the expression, gone to Town on their Christmas window displays. Have they heard, I wonder, about the competition for the best window display?

I hope that you have all got your listing of the events in the county town in December from the Western Telegraph. I’m really excited about the possibility of the LIVE nativity scene. Something new for Haverfordwest. Not nice for the street cleaners, who I suspect, if the animals get excited, will have a really fabulous display of roses in their gardens next year.

Let’s not forget that Christmas is a time for giving and sharing. There are quite a few charity events planned for the month from the army soup kitchen to collect for the Heroes appeal, to the mayor’s coffee morning for his charities, to St Martin’s Christmas Tree Festival for Pembrokeshire Blind Society and many others.

It is also good that this year the events’ listing contains the services, all denominations in Haverfordwest. If your fancy is for something really special on Christmas Day I hear that the service at St Davids Cathedral is really inspiring.

Advance notice is given that the place to be on 03 January 2010 at 11a.m. is St Martin of Tours Church where the 900 years celebrations will start with a celebratory service with the theme past ,present and future and will feature a few twists on the normal service.
